Forgiving others is very tricky at times as situations are loaded and some people are in your life whom you would rather were not. But forgiveness essentially frees us from them, so itâs always worth it no matter how tough. Mark where you believe you are on the ripples of forgiveness and see how you could progress to the next ring in.
THE SENSE OF AN ENDING
Have you ever felt so close to a friend and knew you were definitely made to be a team? A partner made for fun, adventure AND an instant route to your inner calm? Friendships like this can feel invincible, yet of course lifeâs everchanging face can gradually change this. So what do you do when the demands of life, family and work strain your strands of history and common ground and cracks start appearing? How is it possible that a friendship that was so strong and built on similarity and connection can change gradually with lifeâs plot twists?
It goes back to thinking of our lives as lengthy theatre productions, where characters come and go and seem to step into the spotlight at the exact moment needed. I have had friendships disintegrate over time for no apparent reason. There were no disagreements or volatile scenes in our story, just time and tiny nuances moving the blocks on which our friendship was built. There isnât one specific point in time where these friendships announce their expiration; often itâs a slow fizzle out without explanation. A lot less painful than a huge ruckus but itâs still sad and mourned in its own way.
The next step in finding calm in this situation is to find new ways to interact with these people who were once so close and try to understand each other from our newly established vantage points. When I have encountered this sort of breakdown of understanding over the years Iâve been struck with worry and insecurity that it is ME who has changed and morphed into a person that is less desirable as a friend, and this has taken me far from my cosy place of calm. I am now more in the belief that everyone is permanently changing and that this either forges friendships or subtly severs ties that no longer need to be there. Itâs almost out of our control. We change according to what life presents us with and that may or may not match up to those around you. If you keep doing what you believe is right for you in life and what makes you happy and calm, those who are like-minded will be attracted into the picture. Those people who donât may not work harmoniously with how you see life, and that is fine, too. I believe we attract the right people at the right time, even if it feels strange, uncomfortable and sometimes very tough.
Itâs almost as if we are all marbles, rolling around all corners of the earth, bashing into other marbles that ping us off into different directions.
