One Small Caveat

This is one “ingredient” is pretty hotly contested as to whether or not it’s considered “keto.” So it’s really up to you if you want to indulge or not. There are quite a few places that sell “naked” birds (meaning, completely unseasoned) that definitely would be less likely to have non-keto ingredients.

As for carbs, the estimates I’ve seen are around 10 grams per bird, so just include a slight buffer in your daily carbs. I’ve eaten a full chicken in one day (stop judging me), and it definitely didn’t knock me out of ketosis.

Either way, these rotisserie chickens are really cheap, really delicious, and so fast for busy people. The big part is balancing the protein and fat for your diet. Breasts are the leanest part of the chicken, so you definitely want to pair that with some fat to balance it out.

I find it easiest to debone when it’s still warm, so I usually do that right when I get home from the grocery store. If you want to keep the various parts whole, I’d still break down the chicken just to save on space in your refrigerator.

Make sure you save the bones and any drippings to make chicken bone broth with later. I usually keep a big gallon freezer bag in my freezer to fill with chicken bones. Once the bag is full, time to make some bone broth!
