4.6.2 Turing Completeness and Ethereum
Using Solidity and Serpent, one can write applications (smart contracts) that can usually solve any computational problem and can perform looping and branching statements as well as local state storage. This functionality is required to implement most non-trivial computer programs.
Because the EVM is Turing-complete, programs written in other programming languages, such as Java or Python, can also be written in Solidity. Thus, Turing completeness is key to Ethereum smart contracts because it provides the ability to implement any logic.
