Something was bothering Dominic, that much was obvious, but he just as clearly didn’t want to talk about it, so Farid didn’t push.

He waited until they were in the car and Dominic was buckled and then leaned forward to knock on the partition.

It rolled down, and Amber smiled brightly at him.

“How’s it going?”

“Fine,” Farid said. “Listen, could you take us to Trader Joe’s first?”

“You got it!”

Farid sat back as Amber put the car in gear, and Dominic looked at him quizzically.

“Why are we going to a grocery store? What are you up to?”

Farid dropped him a wink and refused to answer. When Amber pulled up at the store, Farid unbuckled but held up a hand when Dominic made to follow.

“You’re staying here. I’ll be right back.”

Dominic’s brow furrowed, and Farid’s hand twitched with the impulse to smooth away the wrinkle. Instead, he cleared his throat and stepped out.

It didn’t take him long to pick up the items he needed, and he paid and set the bags in the trunk before sliding back in beside Dominic, who arched an eyebrow.

“Remember the meal service?” he said dryly.

“Oh, it’s not for dinner,” Farid said as Amber pulled away from the curb and merged with traffic, and hid his smile at the frustrated breath Dominic blew out.
