Chapter 10
âThis is so irresponsible.â Zakiyyah had trouble keeping the excited squeal out of her tone as she boarded her new home.
Boarded.
She repeated the word in her head. How had she lucked out? She lived on a boat. Temporarily, of course, and Cameron sure didnât like it, but here she was. For the next two months, she would be living on a small yacht.
The owner, an old school friend of Cameronâs, had needed to fly to California to wrap up the estate for his dad after the older man passed. Heâd intended to hire a management company to take care of the boat while he was away or to put it in some type of storage. When Zakiyyah overheard him talking with Cameron about the idea, she proposed her own solution.
One of her ex-boyfriends owned a boat in New York, and she used to go out with him on the water all the time. Not that she drove, but she could damn well keep it clean and safe until Cameronâs friend returned. She was doing him a favor, and he was doing her one. Win-win, since he refused to charge her rent. She loved it, and it got her out of Cameronâs house for a little while.
âYouâre happy.â Cameronâs voice behind her held a note of disappointment. She whirled around to find him following her on board the yacht.
âYouâre early.â
He checked his cell phone, eyebrows lowering. âWe said three hours.â
âOh yeah, I did some shopping and lost track. I wasnât ready yet. I just got here.â
âI could come back later.â
She let her gaze slip down over him. He wore jeans that fit his narrow hips so well and a simple button down shirt. For some reason, he looked edible. Send him away? Not in that lifetime, and not after they had made these plans. She wanted him from the moment she set eyes on himâwell after wanting to throttle him for getting in her way.
âNo, stay. It will take me two seconds to be ready.â
He agreed. She rushed to her room and put away the things she had bought then decided why bother with a special outfit when she was just going to get dirty all over again. That was all of the fun.
Standing in her bedroom door, she called to him. He appeared from on deck and as he approached, she backed into the room. His blue eyes held confusion. Gosh, she didnât know how impactful they could be until that moment. âYou didnât change.â
âWrong.â She pointed down. âI took off my heels. Flip-flops work best on a boat.â
âOh.â
She laughed.
âDo you know how beautiful you are?â
She looked up at him as she was sliding her foot out of a flip-flop. The lust was clear. He couldnât deny it. And really neither of them wanted to. They were doing this. The feelings were out in the open.
âThanks.â She spoke the word quickly. Her belly knotted. Why was she nervous? She wasnât new to intimacy with a man. Even when the guy was super hot and maybe a little out of her league so to speak, she wasnât this keyed up.
