Ways to overcome your own excuses!

There can be a fine line in the difference between an excuse and a reason. The person giving it perceives it as a ‘reason’ while the other person will be the ultimate judge of whether it is a justified reason, or whether it’s an excuse.

Leading by example is important for leader-managers, and with this in mind, you can reflect below on the ‘reasons/excuses’ listed and consider how you mentally deal with your own resistance.

In this way, you will lead by example. When you notice yourself using these types of phrases, do a mental check with yourself: ‘Is this the truth, or is it an excuse?’ If it’s the truth, deal with it. If it’s another excuse, having an alternative re-frame may well help you.

When other people offer poor excuses to you, it’s common to assume the worst, to think judgmentally about them. This affects your state of wellbeing as you expend emotional energy in dealing with it.
