CHAPTER 24

Jake walked out of the elevator to the underground garage. He made his way to his designated parking spot as he had done a thousand times before. His car, a series 7 BMW was parked in the same spot as usual. He got into the car and started it, with barely enough time for the mechanic to slide out from under the car.

Jeffrey watched from the apartment window as Jake drove out of the covered garage and kept driving, gaining speed quickly.

Inside the car, Jake felt the speed was a little too quick, even for him. He lightly pressed the brakes, but was met with zero resistance. The brakes were not doing anything. He frantically pumped them again and again, slamming his foot harder and harder against the floor but his efforts were futile.

From above, Jeffrey watched the car speed uncontrollably down the street, veering from one lane to the other as Jake tried to avoid hitting any other cars. After a few near misses, Jake lost complete control, causing his luxury car to hit the edge of a pick-up truck, flipping it over and rolling three times before coming to a stop at the side of the road. Seconds later, a fireball erupted from the car, undoubtedly ensuring its lone occupant would never escape. Jeffrey wasn't sure if the explosion came from the accident, or was something his contact had planted. Either way, he thought, it was a nice touch.
