9. The Shaman’s Story

Tuesday morning finally arrived after a restless sleep. I was glad to see the sun chase the shadows away for another few hours. We ate a microscopic breakfast of apples, bananas, oranges and warm soy milk. Soy milk is among the worst things on earth. The jug was full, and Angel warned us we’d need our strength. I had every reason to believe him, so I forced a cup down my throat. I joked that I’d rather have another pint of Ayahuasca, which was not funny to anybody, not even me.

I felt surprisingly good, though; a little weak, but pretty good. No hangover at all, clearer than usual actually.

We were scheduled to have a group meeting with Maestro Javier around noon; I was looking forward to it. We had the option to share our stories or consult privately with the shaman. I was pretty eager to hear some of the other tales and how they would compare with my voyage. Dec and I discussed the ceremony in detail, and we both conceded the experience was a billion miles out of our league. We were like grizzled sailors that had just survived the storm of all storms, swapping gruesome details of our survival.
