Mustard-based BBQ sauce can be linked to the region’s German heritage, dating back to the 1700s. These settlers brought with them their love of mustard and combined it with the Native American style of slow-cooking pork and other meats over a wood fire. Little did they know that the flavors they were creating would become such an important part of American barbecue history.
