product – probably no more than 10 in 1000, but to the automobile industry that is not good enough. The standard imposes a strict requirement on characteristics that are measured by attributes. There shall be no AQL, there shall be zero per cent defective in the sample selected for inspection, otherwise the batch shall be rejected.
Why is this necessary?
Your customer does not want to be supplied any defective products. With automated assembly equipment, any defects in fasteners, washers and other components will produce defective products that have to be withdrawn from the line and put through a separate rework process then is clearly uneconomical. It is far better to ensure that the only components that feed the assembly tools are conforming products.
How is this implemented?
The way to ensure conformity in this instance is to make the process that produces the attribute incapable of producing nonconforming product. The process can be designed so that errors are detected automatically and rejects ejected so that they are separated from the batch that is inspected.
For inspection by variables the acceptance criteria has to be specified and the place to specify it is the Control Plan that is submitted to your customer for approval.
Confidentiality (7.1.3)
The standard requires the organization to ensure the confidentiality of products, projects and related product information contracted by customers.
What does this mean?
Quite simply, this requirement implies that information about products being produced for a customer are not be conveyed to anyone not authorized to receive such information.
Why is this necessary?
A problem that may face many suppliers to the automotive industry is that of having multiple customers that are competitors, thus creating a need to preserve confidentiality. Customers are naturally concerned that their information or product does not reach their competitors.
How is this implemented?
In responding to this requirement you need to define how you intend to ensure confidentiality. How you do this is not as easy as getting everyone to sign a declaration. The
