“Everything you do in life is a 'first draft.' The faster you get the first draft out there, the faster you can get feedback.” Jack Canfield, said this to a group of 12 of us. We were at a Mastermind on his Success Principles in February of 2016. It applies to life and the first draft of your book. The draft gives feedback. You can’t provide yourself any feedback until you get it all out on paper.

The draft is the foundation. It's the most important part of your book and your writing process. It is where most people get hung up. It reminds me of something Chandler Bolt wrote in one of his books, “How to Not Suck Writing Your First Book.” He pointed out that Facebook has always used the mantra: "Done is better than perfect." You can't get anything else done until you get the draft done. The draft does not have to be perfect. In fact, it shouldn't be because you have got to get your ideas on paper as soon as possible. If you use the analogy of a foundation of a house, you can't start building any other part of the house until you poured that foundation and it's dry. You can't do any other work on your book until you have completed the draft. That's how we start our book.
