CHAPTER EIGHT
Artiel
"Alright well, time to leave. I hope you're ready." I spoke to her as she stood on top of the cliff overlooking her city. I had agreed to take her here after quite a bit of begging. It was far away from our air zone so I was unsure about coming here and my security advisors told me to be wary but I knew that she wouldn't do such a thing.
After all, she had denied wanting to kill me numerous times already, so that was a start.
I glanced over her as she stands there, her raven hair flows in the wind as the sunshine dripped onto her cheek. Her feet slide against the red bedrock as we both watched the horizon, the city glimmers and yet it is marred by something else. It was marred by the appearance of those Rialan dropships that hung around the outskirts of the town.
"So what now? We're leaving right? To where?" she asks.
"Tetrion."
"The ice planet?"
"That's correct."
Tetrion was on the outskirts of a solar system, not many people are from there. It was deemed as one of the only suitable planets for terraforming and even then the planet was still rather frigid, all things considered. Things warmed up in the summer and spring but for most of the year, the planet remained utterly frozen, unmoving, unfeeling. Its position was primarily strategic and that's why we had to conquer it. The largest town only had about a hundred thousand people, it wouldn't and shouldn't be that difficult.
The question laid in what we were going to do once the colony was conquered.
I had thought of initiating my reforms now, but I knew that it would be a futile effort that wouldn't bear much fruit should my troops rebel. From the sentiment that I had been witness to it seems like most of them weren't so keen on following me. Day by day Krexo grew more and more powerful and I wasn't entirely sure what to do. I couldn't exactly leave my post as most of the women would surely suffer as a result of it. I couldn't demand their loyalty but I couldn't sit around either. I knew very well that most of the troops were already against me, and if word got out, which it likely already has, then they would surely stage a coup.
Perhaps they were waiting until this last world was conquered, after this, we didn't have any further deployments and would get momentary leave to go back home. If that was true then after we invaded this planet it would be the perfect time for the men to strike as they would keep my loyalist forces as a component of the assaulting force. After, they would have no need for me nor the forces loyal to me.
I grimaced as I thought it over. This was the price of what I was going to do. Wasn't it?
I glanced at her while she sat there in the sunrays, her body washed over with light and warmth.
