VEGFR-3

VEGFR-3 , also known as FLT4 and PCL, is a membrane-anchored tyrosine kinase encoded in chromosome 5q35.3. Physiologically, VEGFR-3 is essential in embryonic lymphangiogenesis [88]. In normal tissues VEGFR-3 is mainly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells. The main use of this marker is in the identification of lymphatic endothelial cells [88, 89]. However, VEGFR-3 is also express in the endothelium of some blood vessels, myoepithelial cells, and even in non-endothelial cells [89]. VEGFR-3 is expressed in almost all KSs, kaposiform hemangioendotheliomas, papillary intralymphatic angioendotheliomas (Dabska tumor) and lymphangiomatosis [89, 90]. Furthermore is also observed in some angiosarcomas and capillary hemangiomas [91, 92]. VEGFR-3 antibodies for immunohistochemistry are commercially available [92].
