Love,

Chapter Nine
Once I was done praying by my bed, I stood up and headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth. However on the way there, I became sidetracked as I noticed the reporter on the news talking about a memorial for a shooting at a middle school, in West Paducah, Kentucky. I could not believe that a fourteen-year-old boy was responsible for killing three of his classmates and hurting five others.
The reporter explained, "School violence has dramatically risen in the last decade or so, how can we as a nation stop it?"
I saw a woman wearing a sophisticated yet charming blue pinstriped skirt with a matching jacket. Underneath her jacket was an elegant button up light blue dress shirt. She was speaking into a microphone, which was connected to the podium in front of her. I noticed a large button pinned to the right side of her jacket, with a picture of a teenage boy on it.
She began speaking to a group of about five hundred people, who gathered around her of all different ages and races, about her son who was killed last year. The reporter was holding a picture of her son, when I suddenly realized that I knew her and her son Daniel. He was killed at our school almost two years ago, so I carefully listened to her tell the story of how he died.
I tried hold back the tears, while I thought about the day he died and suddenly my eyes filled with tears.
"SAVE OUR CHILDREN", she yelled over the crowd as she continued her speech. "Someone has to figure out how to stop our children from killing each other!" she demanded.
Her tears began flowing once again as she quickly stepped away from the microphone. She embraced her husband while crying hysterically, while the reporter showed pictures of Daniel.
I felt overwhelmed by sadness and I began crying also, however I tried to dry my tears. I decided to pray for God to comfort his mom and all the others that missed him also.
I silently prayed for all those families, who have been affected by school violence tonight. I wasn’t sure if I could help, since I am only one person against so many. Suddenly, I decided to walk into the bathroom and shut the door behind me.
I cried out in sadness, "Lord. Please help me figure out a way to stop this!”
After I finished drying my tears, I washed my face and I brushed my teeth, while worrying about Nikki once again. She never did call tonight…I hope she is feeling better tomorrow in class. I hope I will see her on the bus or at school, since we have to take some tests tomorrow.
I tossed and turned all night long, until I finally fell asleep, sometime around three in the morning.
I woke up around five in the morning, with a horrible nightmare about Jason hitting me instead of Nikki. I must have finally dozed off, because my mom woke me up at six in the morning to get ready for school.
