Chapter 7
Parking the wagon, Miriam hopped out and went running toward the field near her home. It was one of the places where she felt closest to Gott. Although He was everywhere, she loved being with Him out in the open in nature. She felt the immediate need to pray on her feelings.
She was so overcome with emotion, she had not had the opportunity to even sort them out. She knew more immediately that she felt jealousy and that in and of itself deserved some prayer.
Throwing herself against the soft earth, she closed her eyes and let the warmth of the sun wash over her. There she felt divine power and she knew that Gott was listening.
"I am not sure why I feel these feelings," she spoke aloud. "I just know that the emotions came more quickly than I anticipated and I was not prepared to feel so much so fast."
The tears started running down her face. "I ask for forgiveness for the feelings of jealousy. I did not have intentions of feeling that way toward Roy. I did not know how to handle what I saw. I know that I am imperfect. I pray for the ability to work on that and make the necessary changes. I'm not sure if Roy is the one for me."
She chuckled to herself as she began thinking about the situation a bit more in depth. "We've not had more than one conversation and I am already consumed with emotions for him. That must mean something. Or maybe it means nothing," she said to herself out loud.
Wiping the tears from her eyes, she continued to pray. "Please, forgive me. That's all I pray. I would like to handle this situation much better because I know that I'm a much better woman than to get jealous."
Taking a deep breath, Miriam felt slightly cleansed by her prayer. She only hoped that when faced with the situation again, she could handle it differently. She was a much better woman than that. Also being aware that she did not have all of the information about what was going on, she knew that there was a possibility that she had completely jumped to conclusions for no reason.
Feeling like she'd spent enough time outside, she headed for the haus. She did not want Jacob to come home looking for her and find her outside when he expected her to be in the haus ailing. She sent up a quick prayer for forgiveness for not quite telling her bruder the truth about why she'd gone home. It was not a complete lie; she had been feeling sick to her stomach. The reason for the nausea had not been in question, but she knew that when she told him that she was not feeling well, the reason had not been an organic one. But at no point did Miriam want to explain to her younger bruder that she was feeling anxiety and jealousy because the mann she had so quickly fallen for was with another woman.
