Check your answer. Try testing the answer in the context of the problem. If Brice had a 94% average in Spanish for the first marking period, and his average went down 12 points, then his second marking period average was 94 — 12 = 82

ERROR ALERT:

“less than”

When you need to change words such as “2 less than x,” you may want to write “2 - x." DON’T!

Look at this “real world” situation, and you’ll see how this is wrong: “His age is 2 years less than mine.” You do NOT figure his age by subtracting your age from 2. Instead, you subtract 2 from your age, "x - 2."
