Begin a learning experience by asking the learners to reflect on their generational differences and how that may, or may not, influence their perceptions about the topic and about the learning methods. By doing this, you avoid stereotyping and engage learners on reflecting on this issue among themselves.

Influences of Generational Differences on Adult Learner Expectations

While it is not a good idea to base learning decisions on stereotypical thinking about differences among generations, it is a good idea to analyze the learners who are targeted for any learning experience. It is best to involve them in the process of deciding what learning is needed, how it is designed and developed, how it is delivered, how transfer of training is planned and embedded in the learning experience, and how results are evaluated.

Still, are there general ideas or tips that can be obtained by examining the general characteristics of the various generations? Here are some suggestions—which will need to be checked against the individuals within any targeted group of learn-ers—for designing and delivering learning experiences for these generations:
