Writing a play, whether it is for television, radio, stage or film, is a craft in itself. Although they all require a script, these different media require different methods of presentation. A play written for the stage, for example, will be different in content and presentation to a play written for the big screen. There will be limitations in the elaborateness of the plot, stage setting and cast of characters. A play for radio, where the playwright relies on dialogue and sound effects, will require a different script to one written for the stage, television or big screen. Shortly I will set out some general guidelines that apply to all playwriting, but first a few words of advice.
