1 2/3 cups granulated sugar

½ cup water

¼ teaspoon cream of tartar

½ cup egg whites (3)

Reserved fresh coconut

In a pot, stir sugar, water, and cream of tartar over a low heat until sugar dissolves. Boil without stirring until syrup threads from spoon. Meanwhile, beat egg whites until stiff. Add syrup gradually, beating constantly until cool enough to spread.

Frost top and sides of cake. Grate coconut and sprinkle on top and sides.

2 whole eggs, separated

1 ¼ cups sugar

2 heaping teaspoons cornstarch

2 cups milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 can Baker’s Angel Flake Coconut

1 baked pie shell

½ teaspoon cream of tartar
