In an article on ‘The Ferrybank Fracas’, the following was reported:

At a Special court held in Waterford Jail a further remand of eight days was granted by Mr. Gerald Griffin, R.M., in the case against Timothy Lench. Mr. Lench, a ganger at Ferrybank, Wexford was charged with grievously assaulting a fellow ganger, Joseph Thompson. The assault took place at Ely House on Saturday night 23 January. Head Constable McGrath informed the court that the injured man, at present in Wexford County Infirmary, would probably be recovered enough to appear on the expiry of the eight day remand.9
