In 2002, the “business” competency domain evolved into what we called strategic contribution. We found that knowing the business meant also understanding the organizational strategy and competitive advantage. HR professionals needed to know how the business made money and what the key differentiators of the business were. Strategic decision making, fast change, infrastructure design, and culture management were key elements of this competency domain.
