There are numerous developments taking place in the insurance market. Certainly, insurers are gaining a better understanding of IP exposures and risk assessment techniques. The improvement in the insurance climate will result in more carriers coming into this field, and competition will fuel product diversification and enhancement.

As industry and the economies of the developed world increasingly understand the value of IP, there will be increased demand for suitable IP insurance covers. It is interesting to note that the European Commission is evaluating the potential advantages of creating a pan-European patent insurance to fund litigation risks for European nationals. It will be intriguing to find out if this is something that other governmental bodies investigate.
