Chapter Eleven

Abigail

Just when I think I have him figured out; he shows me another side of himself. He’s sweet, kind, and caring, but so much more. Chase is also ultra-protective and possessive, the latter shocking, though I can’t deny I liked it…a lot. Who knew that country boy charm was hiding that? Now it seems there’s another secret, not that I can judge since I haven’t even told him everything because I’m worried he’ll be disappointed, but I will. I’ve decided I’m seeing this through. A man like Chase is one of a kind, and I’d be stupid not to give this an honest to God chance. I’m scared shitless about Isaac trying to take Lily, but I trust Chase. He’s never done anything to make me believe he couldn’t handle a situation, and with him by my side, I know I will find the strength. Hearing that he wasn’t even going home so he could be near us erased the last of my doubts.

“You’re crazy, but I can’t act like that didn’t just make me fall harder for you. So, Mr. Full of Surprises, where exactly do you live?”

Giving my hand another squeeze, he replies, “On the south end of the Montgomery property closest to town, though that’s still about a thirty-minute drive. It should have animals and such, but I don’t really keep any on my side due to my job. My brother takes care of most of the farm work. I hope you’ll love it.”

“Chase, I’m sure I will. You’ve seen my place, I’m content with quaint and cozy.”

“That was a temporary spot to lay your head.”

“Semantics. Does it really matter?”

“Humor me. I think you tortured me enough these last couple months. This is home,” he says and I glance up to find a huge Victorian home that looks like it belongs in a magazine. My parents’ is about the same size, but it always seemed to be a cookie cutter version you’d see a Stepford wife in. All the houses in the area had that feel, so it wasn’t a reflection on them. This is beautiful, and exactly what I visualize when I think of a family home, plus, it’s my favorite color – sky blue. As he parks at the end of the long driveway, I’m rendered speechless by a small greenhouse next to the entrance.

“Are those…?”

“I wanted our girl to have a lily garden, one she can grow with and eventually take care of. She’s my precious little flower.”

“Chase, I... I don’t know what to say.” He tells me I don’t have to, then, as if on cue, Lily giggles and I laugh, telling him, “Seems as if she has an opinion or two.” He chuckles, then we step from the van, Chase getting Lily, and I follow him inside, which is just as fancy and beautiful as the outside. It reminds me of my childhood home and I get a bit nostalgic, though I try not to let the sadness take over at missing my dad and mom.
