GEPAN was later renamed in 1988 SEPRA, an acronym for Atmospheric Re-entry Phenomena Expertise Department, later changed in 2000 to the Rare Aerospace Phenomena Expertise Department, and finally in 2004 renamed a fourth time to GEIPAN, for the Unidentified Aerospace Phenomenon Research and Information Group. For simplicity and lack of confusion, I refer to the group’s work throughout as GEPAN.

IV. The original report was limited to around 140 copies and kept secret inside the French government.

V. Skeptics would claim the roadway marks were normal tire marks, and other botanists said the GEPAN botanist was a “true believer” who made critical errors in his analysis of the effect on the nearby plants.
