Tackle your stressors head on by reducing or eliminating them entirely.

Copper Imbalances

Copper is essential in the production of energy, being used in the final stages of the Krebs cycle where glucose is metabolised. Copper also has many other functions in the body such as in red blood cell production and in healing the body after infections or injuries.

However, if you have an imbalance of copper, too much of it for example then this can set off a chain reaction of negative effects which can cause symptoms such as the following; premenstrual syndrome, learning disorders, skin rashes, depression, insomnia, headaches, stress and of course fatigue.

Why does all this occur? Well it’s of course very complicated science stuff but here goes .

Copper in the blood needs to be bounded to certain proteins for it to do its job. When there’s an excess of copper, there are not enough proteins to bind to the copper which causes an abundance to build up in the bloodstream. Unbounded copper in the bloodstream is toxic, it also has very strong electrical conductivity. Because of this, many free radicals, the destructive molecules which damage our cells and prematurely age us are created.

With the diet of today, copper imbalances are becoming more and more common. This eventually will cause the symptoms listed above .

That is an extremely simplified version of events, but I did make a promise that I was going to keep this book nice and simple.

One well known copper researcher has labelled copper the “emotional mineral.” This is because of the large effect of emotional conditions that a copper surplus in the bloodstream can cause. These include; depression, violence, anxiety, OCD, phobias, bipolar disorders, epilepsy, Tourette’s syndrome and schizophrenia.

These symptoms often return to normal, even in suicidal patients when copper levels are brought back to normal levels.

It has also been found that violence around the world correlates with copper in the bloodstream. In regions where not much red meat is eaten (red meat contains zinc, a balancer for copper) there are higher incidences of violence.

Women tend to suffer more often from a copper imbalance than men due to birth control pills which contain copper. Those who follow vegetarian diets also tend to suffer from a surplus of copper, although this is not due to the high amount of copper in vegetables, but more to the low amount of zinc in their diets from not eating meat .

However, the most common symptom of copper surplus is indeed fatigue !
