Chapter 12--Rendezvous
Back at the clearing Oliver was still asleep when Nikita returned spitting out the bass so she could shift back to her true form. A moment later she had collected several sticks and was just beginning a small fire using her dragon fire breath. She cast a spell to conceal the smoke and scent except to her and Oliver. With that done she started skinning the fish with one of her serrated daggers. Once she was done skinning the fish she skewered them on a long, thin stick which she levitated over the fire and had it rotate, like a rotisserie. Before long the fish were nearly done cooking and filling the air with a delicious fragrance.
At this point Oliver woke up with a yawn and a stretch, before he looked over in the direction of the tasty scent. He saw that Nikita had caught breakfast and was cooking it over a fire. “Finally, you're awake. I was beginning to think you had been envenomated during the night.” Nikita glared at him as she snapped her fingers. In response the stick with the embedded fish floated over to him and one of the fish slid of the stick towards him just as a paper plate appeared out of thin air in his lap, where the fish landed with plastic eating utensils next to it.
“Looks good! Where did you learn to cook?” Oliver asked before he dug in.
“I learned on the run. Plus it’s not hard to make campfire fish, no seasoning.” Nikita said as she received her fish from the floating skewer stick. Oliver and Nikita quickly ate their fish. Once they were done the silverware and plated disappeared into smoke. Nikita flexed her fingers on her left hand into a fist and the little fire disappeared, replaced by random leaves and sticks. She motioned for Oliver to follow her, as she began walking towards the small river she had found earlier.
They made it to the river a short time later. Oliver looked at Nikita curiously then at the river. “We will swim with the current for a bit. And don’t worry I’m the scariest thing in the river, just don’t get to close to the tail while it is moving, it is a weapon in its own right,” Nikita said before she shifted into a ten-foot long alligator. Oliver jumped away in fear as he saw her long teeth. Nikita slid into the water with a smile and waited in the river for Oliver to get in the river. Oliver eventually saw that there was no way out of getting in the river and swimming with an alligator, even if it was just Nikita. He made sure the straps to his katanas were secure, then walked into the water to swim beside her for a bit.
Oliver reach her a moment later and noticed her smiling mischievously. “Why are you so happy?” Oliver shot her a challenging glare as he floated beside her.
“I’m happy because you finally manned up. Now hop on.
