DON’T EAT THESE

Foods to avoid are any that may contain parasites or pose a risk of otherwise poisoning the fetus. These include raw meat of any kind, raw fish and most sushi (order vegetarian sushi instead), raw eggs in salad dressing, some deli meats, and soft cheeses. In your first trimester especially, avoid bitter foods such as broccoli and brussels sprouts. Some doctors believe it is a good idea to avoid the skins of potatoes, which are thought to be slightly toxic. Many herbalists recommend staying away from licorice, sage, nasturtium, celery seed, and ginseng.

And remember, if any food makes you recoil while pregnant, don’t eat it! A bad reaction of any kind to food you’re considering eating is your body’s way of protecting your unborn child. While there may be nothing harmful in that plate you’ve been presented with, it’s your prerogative as a pregnant woman to say no.

Avoid anything you have the slightest aversion to. It’s your body’s way of protecting the fetus!
