Theanine
Green tea has many known health benefits. It contains a compound called theanine that calms anxiety and stress while helping you sleep.4 It also helps improve mood and concentration.5 Since theanine does not generally make people feel drowsy, you can take theanine during a workday or school day. It won’t interfere with your daily activities. It also helps some people with Lyme get off their prescription medications for sleep or anxiety. However, do not stop your medications without first consulting your doctor. You can get serious withdrawal symptoms if you stop too rapidly. Take 200 milligrams at bedtime and another 200 milligrams during the day if needed for anxiety or stress. Please note that taking theanine is not the same as drinking green tea, which when taken before bedtime could interfere with your sleep. I recommend taking theanine as a nutritional supplement instead.
