Chapter Five

“So, the guy who almost made me punch him for talking to you like you he did kissed you?” Mathias asked.

She and her three friends were having dinner in her room that night. Even if her friend didn’t have a frown on his face, she’d know the disapproval since it was rolling off of him in waves.

“Basically yes. I think we came to a truce.” Kerri smiled wickedly. “That man can put forward a truce like a dream.”

“She means kissing, Mathias,” Nadia teased.

“I know what she meant,” Mathias said gruffly.

“Must be like his friend Ryan.” Tony took a sip of his drink and looked away from their amazed expressions.

“You kissed Deputy Ryan? He’s gay?” Kerri asked.

“Yep, and I’ve developed an addiction to cowboys, one in particular,” Tony said and dug into his pasta.

“Am I the only one not getting action in this town?” Nadia asked outraged.

“Neither am I,” Mathias pointed out. “Not that I’m looking and as the oldest person in the room I choose to ask if this the correct course of action for either one of you. Tony, you are the lawyer and it could like impropriety, and Kerri, well, any reporters get on that property and you’ll be splashed all over the tabloids.”

“Why should she care about that? They splash her on there anyway,” Nadia retorted. “She could be married with babies and they’d find a way to warp it.”

Kerri held up her hand. “I understand both points, but it’s a kiss not an engagement ring, and it was nice.”

“More than kissing for me.” Tony winked. “The man has hands that can do things…”

“Whoa, whoa we don’t need to hear that!” Mathias covered his ears.

Kerri whistled and then grinned. “The heck with that, meet us in my bedroom later. Nadia and I want to hear it all.”

“That’s for sure,” Nadia agreed. “I’ll just have to be satisfied with looking at that yummy Jonas when he’s at the ranch.”

“He is handsome,” Kerri agreed.

“I haven’t been out to that ranch yet, maybe I should stop by,” Tony mused.

Mathias shook his head. “I seem to be the only one who hasn’t gone crazy in this family.”

“Oh, Mr. M., you are as crazy as the rest of us,” Nadia said with a grin.

Kerri leaned over and put her head on Mathias’s shoulder. She loved when he referred to them as a family. In all honesty, they were the only people in the world that she had in her life. The only ones who really mattered, and when her world was in darkness, they were there to bring her out.

“Mathias, Kerri has been cleared of any improprieties in the assault of Alex Mendoza days ago. That part of the case has been closed,” Tony pointed out. “Ryan had nothing to do with it. The special investigators did and she should kiss the hell out of Alex the cowboy.”

Nadia nodded. “It’s about time you dated someone who you actually know doesn’t give a damn about your money. You can see the money signs in their eyes.
