Batman: It’s not that important, but it’s what keeps us a group pretty much like, if you’re down with Blaze Crew, then you’re down, pretty much. So it’s sort of important. Not that important though, it’s not like “oh, I live and die for Blaze Crew.”

VP: Do you think that other people in their gangs would say that they live and die for their group?

Batman: Oh yeah. Like when you get into the Bloods or Crips or whatever gang, once you in it, the only way you gettin’ out is in a box [coffin]. So that’s why I’m just like, “Whoa, if I’m trying to retire, I’m not trying to die.” . . . I’ve heard a lot of people that I know get shot because they’re in a gang, and die. Some of my cousins are Bloods, they been in jail for gang violence, selling drugs. . . . But yeah, it’s pretty much because I’m not trying to get shot, not trying to do stuff I don’t want to do.
