“Love and respect” – how often do you hear a leader utter this phrase about those they work with? How many times have you said or thought this about those you work with?

How Leaders Can Develop The Mindset of the Chef

At the very base of this mindset is the understanding that your job as a leader isn't just about making the business more money. You need to look beyond the organization to see how the work you are doing is impacting society, local communities, and the world. Again, from my interview with Paul Polman:

The world is arguably more chaotic and unpredictable than at any time in recent memory. Gross inequality has left billions behind without access to basic human needs, such as work, education, healthcare, and sanitation. Ideological differences are straining national cohesion, which has fueled mass migration and the refugee crisis. The fourth industrial revolution, defined by rapid technological advancements, is fundamentally transforming industries and the world of work. And, most alarmingly, we are facing a climate emergency that threatens the future of humanity. This combination of volatility and change has understandably bred huge insecurity and disillusionment and led to a world where trust – particularly in political leaders and governments – is extremely low. These are enormous challenges for future leaders, who must find a way to reconnect with citizens and restore confidence in a reformed economic and social system that is more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.
