¼ cup vegetable oil

1 (1-pound) bag of frozen precooked edamame, in the pod

3 tablespoons chopped pickled ginger

3 garlic cloves, chopped

2 teaspoons togarashi (optional; see tip)

1 cup ponzu sauce (see tip on this page and recipe on page 184)

2 scallions, chopped, for garnish

SERVES 4

TOTAL TIME: 15 minutes

Togarashi is a Japanese pepper blend that can be found at most local supermarkets or specialty markets. If you can’t find it, you can substitute chile flakes, or if you don’t like your food spicy, you can just leave it out.

Ponzu sauce is a citrus-flavored soy sauce found with the Asian ingredients in most supermarkets.
