Fingers
Finger attacks are simple to use and very painful, whether you target one digit or two. You should even beware of this possibility in conventional wrestling.
Digit attacks are to be feared in real combat above all - never let you fingers get grabbed up into a lock. As for counters, if someone shfor example grabs two or three of your fingers, bring your free hand in to seize the attacking hand. This makes the opponent's job of twisting and bending more difficult, and this might grant you the time you need to throw the headbutt or kick which might set you free.
Leg locks
If you manage to take hold of a leg - though leglocks are not easy to apply unless you have had a lot of practice - there are two locks which are relatively simple to apply and very formidable. They can break a leg in one direction or the other, shatter or dislocate joints, and are performed with one hand on the heel and the other on the toes.
Other techniques for trapping the foot are taught, but these give you less command over the trapped leg, above all if the leg is not fully extended. If the opponent is able to contract the limb, he can then deal you a decent kick. Once your leg is grabbed you will sometimes have to defend yourself by going prone to the ground on both hands and throwing kicks at the attacker with your free leg.
To avoid the chance that you, as the one applying the lock, will get kicked, use one of your feet to step on the opponent's other leg as in figure 38. The opponent shown here is now immobilized and at the mercy of the man applying the lock.
To avoid such locks yourself, don't wait until his grip is consolidated: Draw your attacked leg in immediately and start dealing out the kicks or, if you're able to hop up on your free leg, let fly with some punches, etc.
Head and neck locks with counters
Head and neck locks. - We have discussed the concept of twisting the head in the section on headbutts.
One can for example administer torque to the neck by pressing one hand on the adversary's forehead while your other hand lifts the chin, shoving his head backwards.
To block such attacks you must first keep your head from being grabbed in this way, either by keeping it out of range or by dropping it back or moving it to the sides - or by forcing the opponent's hands away from it. If your head is seized you must compel the adversary to release it by attacking his fingers or by dealing him a strike such as the heel smash to his toes, a point kick, or a punch. At the same time seek to disengage. We should repeat that you should not turn to potentially lethal countermeasures unless your life is being threatened.
When speaking of locks, we would add that some of them, like some wrestling moves can, when done properly, allow you to use the superior mass of an aggressor against him.
