This great view of Phillips Avenue was photographed on August 30, 1958, by Charles W. Cushman. It shows a busy street with three lanes of one-way traffic. This would have been one of the busiest intersections in the city at the time. (Courtesy Charles Cushman Collection, Indiana University Archives, P10228.)
This view of Phillips Avenue is looking north from Thirteenth Street around 1974. In the distance, the recent addition of the walking mall that interrupted traffic on Phillips Avenue between Ninth and Eleventh Streets can be seen. By the late 1980s, the walking mall was removed, and Phillips Avenue was again a through street.
