At the words “One” and “Two” the distance is gained; at the word “Three” the blow is delivered, as the right foot touches the ground. Single and double advance and strike will be practiced till they are perfectly executed.

The distance from the dummy is now increased again.

The instructor next commands successively:

At will—Advance and strike left high!

At will—Advance and strike right high!

At will—Advance and strike left low!

At will—Advance and strike right low!

The pupil in each case advances and strikes on the same principles as before, the instructor warning him to keep sparring at every step of the advance, and to be careful not to strike till the right foot is firmly planted within distance.

The pupil is now ready to go to the next branch of the lesson.
