When your baby begins to show an interest in rolling from her stomach to her back, you can carry out this activity to support her development. Sit in front of your baby during tummy time, hold her makeshift rattle to one side, and shake it. When she looks to that side, hold her at her shoulders and guide her through the motion of rolling from her stomach to her side. She may try to take over and finish rolling onto her back—that’s great! Be sure to keep your hands on her shoulders just in case she needs assistance. Move slowly and be gentle during this activity. Let baby rest, and repeat the activity to the opposite side if she is up for it. Remember, don’t push your baby to master a skill. If she’s not attempting to roll yet, wait and carry out this activity when she’s ready.
