Over the years, this combined report has been used effectively to monitor business activities. It is an at-a-glance roll-up so management is always kept updated. Using the same structure in Figure 7.1, management can track the progress of each group. The importance of this aspect of productivity cannot be stressed enough. At the end of a specific period (i.e., week, month or project) management should enter the Actual and Net Difference into the Goal Setting and Tracking spreadsheet. This will display the results for the period. During each period, there should be daily updates to determine if a group is tracking to goal. There can be preliminary evaluations performed to determine if the goal can be achieved in the remaining time period.
