9.3.1 Clinical Features

These lesions occur in young adults (mean age 22.5 years) and involve the trunk primarily followed by the head and neck, and proximal extremities [26, 27]. Clinically, the lesions are usually described as raised, bluish or black, suggesting blue nevus, an atypical nevus, or melanoma. Increasing lesional diameter beyond 5 mm, irregular borders, and coloration, particularly in patients greater than 40 years of age, should raise concern for an atypical variant or melanoma.
