It is also presumptuous to believe that surgeries claimed to be successful for “nonspecific” low back pain were actually helping for the presumed diagnosis. Hypothetically, improved movement and less pain could also be related to several other factors including diminished signals sent from the connective tissue stretched by intense surgical retraction. It is hard to control for that factor and difficult to prove.

As mentioned, there are multiple other medical conditions which may or may not be related to connective tissue with varying levels of laxity or tightness. Research suggests special regulation or memory of “loose” connective tissue, but there is still more to understand. Various modalities and treatments target connective tissue or fascia to help with pain and function but the intelligence of this aspect of the human body is just beginning to be understood. Mounting evidence would likely substantiate and reinforce the treatments already offered by so many non-mainstream health professionals who address fascia. Hence, learning and researching are paramount to better understand the connective tissue within the complex human body.
