The Carmelita Club, owned by Mario López, (first row, far right) and managed by Shorty Pérez (first row, second from left) was one of the greatest barrio teams of Los Angeles. Unlike other teams lasting only a few seasons, the CPC would last years, eventually earning the moniker Los Chorizeros (the sausage makers). From the 1940s to the 1970s, the Carmelita Provision Company Chorizeros are said to have won as many as 19 Los Angeles City Championships.
