She’d been hoping she’d hear from Travis over the weekend, but her phone had stayed silent.

Her workout calendar had her taking a rest day on Saturday, and when Sunday came around, she almost expected to see Travis at the pool, just like he’d been the week before.

But he wasn’t there.

She’d fought back disappointment at this and had gone on to church, looking for him there as well.

No Travis, though.

She’d run into Jordan during the meet and greet and couldn’t keep herself from asking about where Travis was.

“He had to head out early this morning to one of the rental properties,” Jordan said. “It was a pretty serious issue. Bricks were actually falling right off the structure and into the street. The city called the problem in.”

Oh my.

Avery had thanked him for the news, and before she could text Travis to tell him she was praying for him and that horrible situation, he had texted her.

Sorry I’m missing church. And that I missed our workout in the pool this morning.

She’d smiled to herself, just reading the words.

No problem, she’d texted back. I’m sorry that you’re having problems with that property. Jordan just told me about it.

Another few seconds passed before she got another text.

That’s the least of my problems. Do you have an opening at your clinic tomorrow?

He wanted to come by and see her at work. This overshadowed his mention of problems, and she could feel her excitement building.

Sure do. How about 9:00?

I’ll be there, he texted back immediately.

And Avery had to fight to keep her mind on the sermon for the rest of the service.
