Check arteriovenous shunt (AV shunt) for thrill (palpable turbulence of blood flow; gently feel for flow of blood through shunt) and bruit (audible turbulence of blood flow; listen with a stethoscope for sound of blood flow through shunt).

No contrast dye tests.

No nephrotoxic medication.

Monitor patient very closely.

9. Testicular Cancer

What Went Wrong

Cancer involving the testicle typically occurs in men in their teens or twenties. It is the most common form of cancer in this age group. The cancer is hormonally dependent and tends to metastasize fairly quickly to lungs or to bone. A painless nodule may be found by the patient. There is an increased incidence in patients with a history of cryptorchism.
