10.5.5 Diagnosis

Detailed sexual history and physical examination.

Serology for HIV and HCV and exclusion of other ulcerative and non-ulcerative STIs.

Chlamydia serology (complement fixation tests or microimmunofluorescence [MIF] assays). High complement titers (>1:64) and high MIF titers (IgG >1:256) usually correlate with invasive LGV infections. However, false-negative and false-positive results may occur, and interpretation of serologic test for LGV is still not standardized.
