Chapter Thirteen

Halle drew a deep breath and opened her eyes. Hazy morning sunlight filled the room. Instinctively she sat upright, almost expecting to find someone standing there. After a semi-conscious survey of the room, and a slight head rush, she reached into the bottom drawer by the bed and pulled out her dream journal wanting to preserve every detail, every aspect of the surreal sleep experience she had envisioned. Every facet was penned to paper with ease. The anxiety, the emotion, the intensity. . . she couldn’t recall any dream every feeling so lucid.

The thought of the argument with her father and the look of the stranger’s glare in the dream made the pit of her stomach ache. She closed her eyes and shook her head, attempting to dismiss the thoughts of him and the feeling she got when he’d looked at her, but his face was there in the darkness. Her eyes flew open and she shook her head again in an attempt to clear it. “It was just a dream,” she murmured, “just a dream.”

She was pulling the drawer open to toss the journal in when she caught a glimpse of the clock. Garbled irritation escaped under her breath as she jumped from beneath her sheets and flew to the bathroom to brush her teeth. Danged internal clock wasn’t much help. She’d gotten lost in her dream world way too easily. Getting ready in less than twenty minutes? It could be done. She hoped.
