Taking advanced science courses while still in high school will definitely give prospective medical technologists a leg-up over their competition.

Technical Schools, Community Colleges, and Online Learning

Some medical technology jobs require education that can often be obtained at technical schools, community colleges, and universities.

If you’re interested in pursuing a job in medical technology, you should start looking at programs during your senior year of high school. Many trade or technical schools offer courses in the medical technology field. So do community colleges. Visit colleges in person or on the Internet to find out about specific programs. Make sure the school is accredited. This means that the curriculum is recognized by a national board and is therefore sufficient for licensure and certification. Ask other students who have attended the school about their experience. Did they have a positive or negative one, and why? If you don’t personally know anyone who has attended the school, you could find alumni online by using a search engine or by networking on social media sites.
