Babies less than 6 weeks old may fall asleep very late at night, and each bout of sleep may not be very long during the day or night. Try to soothe your baby to sleep during the day and at the end of the day before she becomes overtired. Always respond to your baby when you think she is hungry or in distress. Avoid the overtired state by keeping the intervals of wakefulness brief.

By 6 weeks old, 80 percent of babies become more settled at night, sleep a little longer at night, and begin to become drowsy for night sleep at an earlier hour. If your baby shows signs of drowsiness earlier, try to soothe her to sleep at an earlier hour.
