Sonographic examinations can be performed by holding the animal in lateral recumbency . In large adult dolphins the full length of the testis can be difficult to visualise in a single sonogram. One useful practical maneuver is to obtain measurements following the instructions of the operator with the aid of an helper. The distance between the cranial and caudal poles indicated by the operator can be measured on the surface skin by the helper as shown in Fig. 164. By comparing the measurements of the distance between the cranial and the caudal poles with the transverse diameters it is possible to obtain the volume of the testis.6
