WHITE & NON-WHITE GENDER RELATIONS

Men or women of color will find their interactions with whites of the opposite sex more tense, hostile, and confrontational.

There are many varying reasons why and several methods of adapting favorably in these situations.

“DAMSEL IN DISTRESS”

In popular white stories, films, and TV shows, you may count one token male of color amongst a cast of white males. The non-white male may sometimes be paired with a white female.

Or, the white female character may also play the role of consoling the male of color when the white males mistreat him.

Over time, ideas like these convey the message that men of color are either equal to or lesser than a white woman.

For white women, this portrayal reinforces existing racist outlooks, carrying over into their day-to-day interactions.

White women will engage non-white males of color according to the stereotype or idea that whites want to reduce them to.
