Determination of genetic fingerprints constitutes another application of molecular techniques, specifically PCR and restriction enzymes. These techniques are currently applied in medicine, forensics, and police investigations to identify individuals from biological samples, such as blood, semen, saliva, skin, and hair, found in cases of death, rape, and other types of aggression. The DNA profile allows the identification of such evidence with a degree of certainty previously considered impossible since it is possible to compare different DNA samples to check whether they belong to an individual or not or kinship between them. Similarly, the technique can provide evidentiary evidence in case of paternity claimed or unacknowledged [3].
