I remember Grandma making baking powder biscuits for strawberry short cake, especially when strawberries were in season. She topped with whipped cream or ice cream. In later years, for Grandma Lorena's birthday we would meet Ronnie, Connie, their family and ours at the Bolo Inn in Menomonie, WI. Grandma loved getting the Bolo Inn's strawberry shortcake with the best ever butter sauce. They served it in a tall sundae glass. I really liked it too and was sad when they closed down the restaurant. I wish I would have gotten the butter sauce recipe.

Beat and Eat Frosting

Grandma Lillian

1 egg white (unbeaten)

1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

3/4 C. sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1/4 C. boiling water

Mix first 4 ingredients in small deep bowl. Then add boiling water, beat to stiff peaks with electric mixer. Sprinkle in coconut if you like.
